Get to know Ashley:
I completed my BSC in Physiotherapy at the University of Cape Town.
In my final year I was awarded the Jannes Karl Wilhelm Binnewald Trophy for the best final year student in Clinical Physiotherapy. After graduating, I completed my Community Service year at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
It was here that my passion for paediatrics was truly solidified. Red Cross also taught me to go the extra mile for my patients and taught me the value of a family-centred and evidence-based approach. I was fortunate enough to have experienced a wide variety of conditions that taught me more than I ever could have imagined.
I am currently completing my Master’s in Physiotherapy. My research title is “The effects of physical activity on gross motor development in children ages 4-6 years old in Cape Town”.
Ashley May Physiotherapy was established in 2020. My special interest is all aspects of paediatrics. I enjoy treating children of all ages and the little joys that come with each stage of a child’s development. I am passionate about helping each child reach his/her full potential and adore it when they surprise themselves by what they are able to achieve. Therapy is play-based and fun to ensure each child enjoys physiotherapy and gets the most out of each session.
I also understand the importance of the multi-disciplinary team and work very closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team that your child may be seeing.
I am committed to life-long learning and plan to do the NDT (Neurodevelopment therapy) course and the MAES (Movement analysis and education strategies) in the next few years. I would also like to complete a paediatric bladder and bowel course to assist in the management of bladder and bowel concerns in children.
